Earlier this year the California Fremont police converter a Tesla Model S, are now “Putting it thought the Test!” Last year, they bought a used 2014 TESLA Model S 85 for $61,478.50 to replace a 2007 Dodge Charger that was being retired in their fleet. Their goal (Like every police department) is to see how it will help save the departments fuel bill.
They didn’t buy the version of the Model S with the highest performance motors, but said that the base model fits the requirements of their patrol vehicle.
Fremont gave the police department the goal of testing an electric vehicle as a patrol car and after looking at the market, they determined that only Tesla’s vehicles fit the requirements. Which is great for Tesla, but if other car companies want to sell to police departments they are going to need to update their EV vehicles, I feel this move is going to be a really great move and then they will be getting more EV added to their fleets and hopefully saving the dept budgets!
Some cool facts about Tesla’s in the Police force:
-In the US, the Los Angeles Police Department and the Denver Police Department are both using Model S sedans as part of their fleets.
-In Europe, Scotland Yard also says that it’s considering the vehicle and the Luxembourg Police converted two Model S sedans to patrol cars.
-The Ontario Police also recently received a brand new Model X, which they also converted to a police vehicle.
There is also a report on a Tesla Model S becoming a sneaky undercover police car.
